Masherbrum, also known as K1, stands tall at 7,821 meters in the breathtaking Hushe Valley of Baltistan, Pakistan. It is the 22nd highest mountain in the world and the 11th highest in Pakistan. Known for its striking pyramid shape and technical routes, Masherbrum is a dream climb for experienced mountaineers looking for a serious high altitude challenge.
Our Masherbrum Expedition 2026 offers an incredible opportunity to explore one of the most beautiful and remote corners of the Karakoram Range. The climb is both physically demanding and deeply rewarding, offering breathtaking scenery, dramatic glaciers and unforgettable views of legendary peaks like K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum, and Nanga Parbat.
5K Expeditions provides both full-service and base camp support packages, allowing climbers the flexibility to choose what suits their experience level best. The expedition typically lasts around 45 days, though the schedule can be adjusted depending on the team’s pace, acclimatization and weather conditions.
Journey Begins – Islamabad to Skardu
Your adventure starts in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. After a warm welcome at the airport, the team will gather for a briefing and gear check. The next day, you’ll board a scenic flight to Skardu, which offers stunning views of the mighty Karakoram and Himalayan peaks. On clear days, climbers can spot Nanga Parbat and K2 from the plane window.
Skardu is the gateway to the Karakoram and home to many historic peaks and trekking routes. Here, climbers make their final purchases, meet the local support team and prepare for the journey into the mountains.
Skardu to Hushe Village – Entering the Karakoram
From Skardu, we drive through Khaplu Valley, a region famous for its ancient Balti culture, traditional villages and green fields surrounded by towering peaks. The final stop is Hushe Village, a charming Balti settlement and the last village before entering the wild alpine terrain.
There are no hotels here, so the first night under the stars sets the tone for the adventure. The next day, the trekking begins a scenic walk along glacial rivers and rugged trails leading deep into the heart of the Karakoram.
Trek to Base Camp
From Hushe, the route passes through Dalchampa and other scenic spots before reaching Masherbrum Base Camp, located near the glacier. This is where the real expedition begins. The surrounding peaks form a dramatic backdrop, and the camp is set up with full logistical support.
Our experienced cooks, porters, and climbing staff remain with the team for the entire climbing period. Nutritious and fresh meals are prepared daily to ensure you stay strong and healthy at altitude. Good food and experienced support are key to the success of any high-altitude climb.
Climbing Masherbrum
Masherbrum is known for its steep slopes, challenging mixed climbing, and unpredictable weather, making it a true test of mountaineering skill and endurance. It’s a serious expedition, best suited for strong and experienced climbers.
The climbing route typically involves establishing multiple camps above base camp for acclimatization and summit attempts. The mountain’s beauty and technical difficulty make it one of the most respected peaks in the Karakoram Range.
Return Journey
After the summit push, the team will descend to base camp, clean up the campsite and retrace the route back through Hushe and Khaplu Valley to Skardu. A short flight (or road journey, if weather requires) takes you back to Islamabad. The trip ends with a farewell dinner, celebrating your time on one of the world’s great mountains.
A Brief History of Masherbrum
Masherbrum has a rich mountaineering history. It was first surveyed in 1856 by Thomas Montgomerie, who labeled it K1 the first peak measured in the Karakoram Range.
To date, only a few successful ascents have been made, reflecting the mountain’s difficulty and respect among elite climbers.
