Overview

The Trango Tower Expedition is not a climb it’s a trip to the heart of one of the world’s most magnificent mountain landscapes. Standing tall in the Karakoram Range of northern Pakistan the Trango Towers are famous for their towering vertical walls, their sheer beauty and their notoriety as one of the most technically challenging climbs on the planet. Standing 6,286 meters (20,623 ft.) high the Great Trango Tower is a climber’s monument to those who aspire to conquer something really unusual.

Being a part of the Baltoro Muztagh subrange the Trango Group is surrounded by legendary peaks like K2, Broad Peak and Gasherbrum so the whole region is a climber’s heaven. But what makes Trango special is not only its height it’s how steep and complicated its granite walls are. The East Face of the Great Trango Tower is recognized as one of the world’s tallest nearly vertical rock faces, rising almost 1,340 meters of unadulterated technical climbing. It’s an arena where technique, endurance and will finally meet.

Galen Rowell and his party first successfully climbed the Trango Towers in 1977 which was a groundbreaking event in the history of mountaineering. Ever since the summit has been visited by some of the world’s finest alpinists and rock climbers, all of whom wish to challenge their skills on this iconic wall. The routes differ in difficulty, but all demand great climbing skill proper preparation and a bold sense of adventure.

Your journey begins in Islamabad the capital of Pakistan. From there we’ll take a flight or drive through the Karakoram Highway to Skardu the gateway to many of Pakistan’s great climbs. Skardu is not only rich in culture but also offers magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. After completing the necessary permits and preparations we’ll travel to Askole the last village before entering the wilderness of the high Karakoram.

From Askole, the true adventure starts as we hike on the famous Baltoro Glacier one of the longest glaciers in the non-polar world. The route passes through a harshly beautiful terrain of ice, rock and giant peaks. With each step ahead we get closer to the awe inspiring granite pinnacles of Trango. Along the way we’ll camp beneath some of the world’s most breathtaking mountains including Paiju Peak and the mighty Cathedral Towers before finally reaching Trango Base Camp a stunning location at the foot of the tower.

Once at Base Camp our support staff will establish a fully serviced camp with tents, kitchen facilities communication gear and all we need to facilitate the expedition. Although the climb itself requires technical rock and alpine expertise our experience staff will be available to assist with logistics, route finding, weather reports and emergency response should that be required. We want to provide an environment in which climbers can concentrate on their ascent.

The climb of Trango Tower is a serious and formidable goal most suitable for skilled climbers. Its raw verticality fluctuating weather patterns and height make it a tough climb that necessitates planning, perseverance and collaboration. But for the willing, the payoff is priceless being at the top of one of the world’s greatest rock towers with the massive Karakoram Range lying out in all directions.

On the return the descent follows the Baltoro route back with time to relax on the achievement party with the team, and absorb the raw beauty of this isolated mountain realm. As we return to Skardu and then Islamabad memories of this amazing expedition will remain with you for a lifetime.

The Trango Tower Expedition is not just an adventure it’s a personal test of strength a journey through one of the most dramatic mountain landscapes on Earth and a climb that belongs to the history books of alpinism.

If you’re ready to challenge yourself on one of the world’s most iconic climbs, this is your moment. Join us and together we’ll take on the mighty Trango Tower.
